Amica has introduced cogeneration into its production process, focusing on reducing environmental impact and increasing energy efficiency. This investment will contribute to a reduction in CO2 emissions by an impressive 5,076.59 Mg annually, marking a significant step towards reducing the carbon footprint.

The introduction of cogeneration has a direct impact on lowering the costs of electricity purchases. This translates into savings for the company and, in the future, for consumers. Amica also plans to benefit from guaranteed premiums for the electricity generated through cogeneration, which is another step towards more eco-friendly production.

Cogeneration, the simultaneous production of electricity and heat in a combined heat and power plant, represents Amica’s first step towards physically reducing CO2 emissions. By gaining experience in this field, the company now plans to expand its activities, undertaking the implementation of a photovoltaic installation with a total capacity of nearly 2 MW.

For years, Amica has been carrying out a series of investments aimed at improving the energy efficiency of the enterprise. The construction of a new gas boiler room, recovery of heat from compressors, replacing lighting with LED, and the development of monitoring systems are just some of the actions taken annually.

- "We aim to achieve an increase in production without an increase in energy demand. Cogeneration is a key element of our strategy to increase energy efficiency and competitiveness in the market. The construction of a high-efficiency cogeneration system is expected to contribute to savings related to electricity purchases while also ensuring energy security for the logistics area. Thanks to this innovation, Amica can also dispense with the cold standby maintenance service," says Robert Stobinski, Vice President of Operations.

The introduction of cogeneration is another step in Amica's strategic plan, focused on environmentally friendly development and increasing market competitiveness.

The task was accomplished with the support of funding from the European Union under the Operational Programme Infrastructure and Environment 2014-2020, Priority Axis I - Reducing emissions in the economy, for the project "Construction of a gas cogeneration plant with a capacity of 0.999 MWe at the AMICA S.A. plant" - competition number POIS.01.06.01-IW.03-00-004/18 under Measure 1.6. Promoting the use of high-efficiency heat and electricity cogeneration based on the demand for heat, Sub-measure 1.6.1. Sources of high-efficiency cogeneration.
